Do we take America for granted?

Freedoms of speech, religion, to assemble… But are we using our life to make a difference in creating a better world? How about in America? America has declined. Unless this nation's leadership lives up to the mission ordained by God, many troubles will come. God is beginning to leave America. This is God’s warning. In our time, all Christians should be world champions, destined to fulfill for God the role of the right-hand side thief. Christians must rise & be willing to struggle for the salvation of the world. But Christians today are too busy perfecting their separate denominations & church interests. Read more »

The humanities – which includes subjects such as literature, history, and philosophy – is vital to our self-understanding.  The cultural education provided by the fields of literature and history enables us to reflect on our past and live fully in the present, providing us with the insight to judge between good and bad and preparing us for the future.  Philosophy, meanwhile, is the study of the deepest truths, those which are revealed through careful analysis and deep thought.

Plato once said that “philosophy is the highest music”: more than any of the other disciplines, philosophy is of paramount importance and utmost elegance, and could even be said to govern all other forms of study.  In South Korea, however, the status of philosophy as a discipline is woefully maligned.  Indeed, I believe that all humanities departments in South Korea face a major, systemic crisis. Great article – this really opened my eyes this issue that I have seen symptoms of but didn’t consider deeply the ramifications. I know many people in America with philosophy, psychology or like degrees to be ever without a job at the end of their higher education. I think many times as well that many students don’t have a clear vision for their future and how to integrate their field of study into our diverse society. One thing that I am terribly confounded by is that there is such a divide between philosophy and religion. I consider historical people like Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tzu, Jesus, etc… as some of the deepest philosophers that not just sought answers but developed means for the individual to gain answers to their own personal life questions.
